Our Craftivist Group meets every Wednesday 6:30pm – 8pm at our favourite Cafe/Bar ‘Flirt‘ in the Triangle.
Craftivism combines the age old acts of activism and craft.
Now I know activism has had a rough ride, activists are often seem as extremists, intent on breaking rules and causing chaos but this type of activism is a little different.
I am not sure craft has any rules to break?
The term craftivism was coined in 2003 by writer Betsy Greer in order to join the separate spheres of craft and activism. Her favourite self-created definition of the term states, “craftivism is a way of looking at life where voicing opinions through creativity makes your voice stronger, your compassion deeper & your quest for justice more infinite”
Sarah Corbett has brought the concept to our UK shores, check out her work
What do we do? Well, we gather together, enjoy a drink of choice and we work on seasonal projects together that are birthed by the group.
Previous projects have included making mini banners for World Aids Day, Pom Poms of Positivity, Valentines Love Hearts and #BeeLife Keyrings.
Presently we are working on a top secret project that will unveiled at Bourne Free!
